From Michael Babcock, “Beginning in 1983, Susan received a tarot reading every year on her birthday from Angeles Arrien, who was to become her teacher for many years. The reading provided a snapshot of where Susan was currently and a preview of what was to come. Although she fantasized about creating an entire deck, this is one of only a few tarot-themed pieces that Susan painted. This is number XIV of the major arcana of the Tarot – Temperance – and is based on the Rider-Waite deck utilizing much of the same imagery. Susan has definitely made the image her own with the lush, layered colors, the lovely angel wings and the beautiful flowers."

The angel balances between one foot on the rocks, expressing the necessity to stay grounded, while having one foot in the water, expressing the urgency to be in flow. She pours water between two chalices, symbolic of the flow and alchemy of life. In the background, there is a winding trail through a mountain landscape, symbolic of the journey of life. Above the mountains hovers a radiant crown, beckoning us to a Higher path and staying true to one’s life purpose and meaning. A stunning example of Susan’s early work.

This original work has been re-framed with an antiqued and gilt, custom wood frame. Archival triple-matted with a linen top mat. Acid-free materials throughout and re-glazed with Museum conservation, Tru-Vue, UV protective glass. Signed by Susan Seddon-Boulet lower-right. Dated Oct 78.
