"Young Girl w/ Kitten - Title unknown"
Medium Date Framed Size Image Size
Oil Pastel/Ink on Artist Board 1974 14"H x 12"W 6-1/2"H x 4-1/2"W
From Michael Babcock: Here Susan has utilized an oval format to enclose an endearing image of a young girl and her cat. Again we see somewhat medieval clothing with lovely detailing and a filament enclosing her hair. There is most likely a story behind the image, as Susan explained in an interview : “Most of my painting has to do with story telling. It is me telling stories to myself rather than me saying ‘I am in process’, I’m telling myself stories, and I’m watching the stories evolve. So, for me, the process that occurs is secondary, of primary importance is the story that’s occurring and how that keeps changing.” Susan had the ability to take an everyday image and turn it into a wonderfully sensitive and touching story.

TPG: From her early childhood on the farm and throughout her life Susan was deeply connected to the beloved animals around her. This charming piece shows the deep connection between a child and her faithful friend. There is very fine sgraffito detail in the child’s dress and headpiece, as tropical foliage forms some of Susan’s classic forest backdrop.

This original work has been re-framed with an antiqued gilt custom wood frame. Archival triple-matted with linen mats. Acid-free materials throughout and re-glazed with Conservation Clear, Tru-Vue, UV protective glass. Signed uniquely Susan Seddon BOULET bottom-center. Dated 74.
