"Spider Grandmistress"
Medium Date Framed Size Image Size
Oil Pastel/Ink 1989 21"H x 18-3/4"W 13-1/2"H x 11-1/4"W
A wonderful Shaman period piece. The central figure is a Native American woman garbed in a cocoon-like robe. On close inspection Spider is visible above the woman’s head and synergistically embraces her. Spider appears in a wide variety of Native American stories, perhaps the most prevalent being Grandmother Spider who spins the web of time and knows all aspects of the future and the past. Spider is an ancient female embodiment of the creative force that weaves the beautiful designs of life. Native American imagery of the four directions of the medicine wheel and a finely detailed web, (much like a dream catcher), enhance the shadowy background.

This original work has been re-framed with a rustic antiqued silver wood frame, archival double-matted with linen mats, acid-free backer board & materials and re-glazed with museum conservation Tru-Vue UV protective glass. Signed by Susan Seddon Boulet bottom center. Dated 1989.
