A magnificent, sensual, Goddess image. Originally titled “Dark Crystal-Crimson Rose”, because of what is held in her hands. In the book, “Susan Seddon-Boulet: The Goddess Paintings”, by Michael Babcock, pub. by Pomegranate Art Books 1994, the painting represents the Toltec Earth Mother, Tlazolteotl, the goddess of carnal love and desire. Michael recounts discussions with Susan in which she explained the image represented emergence to her, an emergence of a more passionate nature. Over the woman’s shoulder is an image of a black Jaguar. In Mayan mythology the black jaguar represents the ability to embrace darkness, navigate through it, conquer the fear of it and reclaim the power over the unknown or unseen. Michael writes of Tlazolteotl, “she is proof that anything that can overwhelm and destroy us also has the power to heal and grant forgiveness”. This is one of Susan’s most iconic and recognized Goddess images. It is beautifully expressed, lush in color and textures and tells a powerful story. Please Note: Shipping to continental United States ranges from $8.50 to $12.50 as determined by PayPal.
